It is the oldest of all classical dance forms in India. Of divine origin and can be traced to over 3,000 years, it is sacred and inspirational in nature. Popular in South India and known for its statuesque and sculpturesque poses, it is an embodiment of beauty and charm. Hence BHA(expression) + RAga(music) + TAla(rhythm) + NATYAM(Dance) = Bharatanatyam. It is extremely traditional as the dancer is considered the worshiper of the Divine, and uplifts the audience to a higher level of spiritual consciousness.
